'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' News: Warner Bros. Unfazed by Box Office Drop

Despite having a 69 percent drop in the box office performance of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," Warner Bros. is devil may care as the movie has already earned almost $700 million for its worldwide gross, which already includes its strong $260.4 million domestic sales. According to the studio, the steep drop can be attributed to the fact that the movie already made $27.7 million during its March 24 previews.

During the movie's opening weekend, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" raked in $166.1 million in North America and $422.5 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing opening for a comic book adaptation movie. However, during the movie's second weekend, its powers in the box office started to wane, only earning $51.3 million as its domestic gross sales.

According to box-office analyst Jeff Bock, bad reviews of the critics on the movie took a toll on its box office power. He remarked that if the audience had been satisfied with the movie, word of mouth would have prevented the movie from suffering a 69 percent decline in its ticket sales. However, Bock pointed out that the movie didn't fail to do its job of re-launching the DC Universe, and the criticisms the movie got will surely pave the way for DC to be more cautious with its other upcoming superhero movies.

Despite the notable drop in its box-office performance, some analysts claim that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's" overall performance in the global arena still qualifies it as a box office. Almost hitting the $700 million mark as it moves towards its third weekend, there is no denying that the money the movie has made is more significant than what the critics say. According to Paul Dergarabedian of ComScores, what really matters at the end of the day is the dollar that the movie makes, which will define its success, and not the percentage of decline that it registers.
