'Battleborn' Open Beta Now On PS4, PlayStation Plus Not Required
Upcoming online first-person shooter "Battleborn" has launched its open beta for the PlayStation 4 and according to a report in GameSpot, a PlayStation Plus membership is not required in order to participate in the beta. The beta for the Xbox One and PC will be coming much later on April 13. All three platforms will close their beta on April 18, according to the report.
The game is a team-based shooter and requires an Internet connection while playing, although individual play is also possible. It also has multiplayer online battle arena elements, and was developed by Gearbox, the same developer that brought to gamers "Borderlands."
Details of the open beta were also shared via the PlayStation blog. The beta will be featuring two full episodes, titled "The Algorithm" and "Void's Edge," which can either be played individually or as a 5-player co-op. There will also be two Competitive Multiplayer Modes called Incursion and Meltdown.
When a player participates in the beta, there will be seven unlocked heroes that will be available to choose from. If a player is able to complete missions and get a higher rank, more heroes will be unlocked. The game's "multiple progression systems" will also be demonstrated in the beta. PS4 participants to the open beta will also get the first Battleborn DLC Pack 1 for free and instant access to a new character, Alani, when the DLC is released. Access to another hero, Toby the mech-driving penguin will also be given to PS4 players during the beta.
In related news, Gearbox has also detailed the DLC that the game will be receiving after its May launch. According to an IGN report, there will be five extra DLC add-ons each of which "brings a Player vs. Environment story operation, exclusive skins and new taunts." All DLCs can be acquired via a Season Pass that will retail for $20.
"Battleborn" is arriving on May 3, for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
