'Battlefield 1': Try DLC Maps Without Buying the Expansion
DICE has found a way for the downloadable content (DLC) maps in "Battlefield 1" to be more accessible to its playerbase. The developer introduces a solution in the form of a new feature called Premium Friends.
As "Battlefield" patrons know very well, those who purchased the DLC are the only ones given access to maps, which meant they won't be able to play on them with those who did not buy the expansions.
With Premium Friends, however, DICE is giving players access to these "Battlefield 1" DLC maps. A group of friends only need one of their peers to purchase the Season Pass of the shooter.
"When creating a party in Battlefield 1 you may notice something new: if someone owns a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass the party will become Premium Enabled," DICE wrote in a blog post. "This will allow anyone in that party to play on all maps, regardless if they own the content or not," they continued.
However, there is a price to pay for this almost too-good-to-be-true promotion. Only the person who shelled out the money — the owner of the Season Pass or the one who owns the current expansion being played — gets to be rewarded with experience.
DICE will then save up the XP garnered by everyone else, ready to be released once they decide to purchase the "Battlefield 1" DLC in question for themselves.
Another perk the owner of the "Battlefield 1" Season Pass or current DLC has is that they get to be the only ones who enjoy the map-exclusive weapons, vehicles, codexes and medals.
That being said, Premium Friends, while it allows non-DLC buyers to set foot in the expansion maps, will not get the full experience it has to offer.
Premium Friends is now live on "Battlefield 1" as DICE test-drives the new feature.
