'Battlefield 1: They Shall not Pass' trailer, map news: 'Frontlines' combines 'Rush' and 'Conquest' game modes

The first major expansion of "Battlefield 1," "They Shall Not Pass," serves up new weapons, maps and fresh game modes as it brings gamers back to the frontlines.

After sending gamers deep into the trenches last year with "Battlefield 1," this year's expansion puts gamers in the shoes of French soldiers as they wage a war against the Germans at the Battle of Verdun. In history, this battle is known as one of the goriest conflicts in World War I.

The trailer for the new game shows how the new game mode works. Frontlines is Rush and Conquest rolled into one game mode, where gamers clash over chained control points. In the first phase of the game, the teams clamber to get hold of flags as they fight over a chain of objectives. However, the game mode turns more Rush-like as soon as the headquarters of one team is seized. When this happens, the teams start battling over telegraph posts.

As reported by iDigitalTimes, opponents can utilize two telegraphic machines to launch air strikes. This phase of the game ends when one of the teams successfully smashes the two telegraphic machines of the opposing team.

The new "They Shall Not Pass" trailer takes place in Rupture, one of the four new maps featured in the expansion. This map is packed with machinery, fields of poppies and deeply dug ditches. The scenery is generally reminiscent of classic World War I imagery.

As of this writing, there is no official release date yet for the new game but it is expected to arrive on PC, PS4 and Xbox One sometime in March. Gamers can purchase a "Battlefield 1" season pass to unlock a two-week early access. Further details about this expansion will arrive in the coming weeks.
