Baylor Baseball Team Joins College World Series

Baylor University's baseball team left for Omaha, Neb. on June 15 for its first trip to the College World Series since 1978.

Baylor’s Bears will face Texas at 6 p.m. today in the first round at Rosenblatt Stadium, according to a Baylor news release. The game is scheduled for broadcast on ESPN.

Present at the “sendoff celebration” at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, Texas, were speakers Interim President William D. Underwood, Associate Athletic Director Todd Patulski, seniors Michael Griffin and Josh Ford, and Head Coach Steve Smith, who coached Baylor to the College World Series.

During this spring athletic season, the university has won various titles, national and single, in all areas of sports - women's basketball, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball and an individual NCAA championship for Olympic gold medalist Darold Williamson in the 400-meter dash. All spring sports - 12 of Baylor's 17 programs - participated in NCAA postseason play.
