BBM for iOS Release Date Scheduled for Sept. 22
The BBM for iOS release date is scheduled for the day after the roll out for Android OS.
Crackberry, a site dedicated to all things Blackberry announced the roll out dates for the messaging service for both platforms earlier this week. They believed that the software would be released for Android on Sept. 20 and for iOS on Sept. 21.
However, BlackBerry clarified some of this information by stating that the software would be available for Android starting Sept. 21 and for iOS on Sept. 22.
"That's right BBM fans- the iconic mobile social network will begin rolling out for Android and iPhone customers around the world from Sept. 21," wrote Blackberry on its official site. "Soon, you'll be able to easily connect with friends on different platforms."
BBM will be available as a free download on those dates and will only be compatible with Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and above and Apple devices running iOS 6 and above. The exact times for the roll outs were also announced as the Android version will be released at 7 a.m. on Sept. 21 and for iPhone users at 12:01 a.m. local time on Sept. 22.
"BBM is a very engaging messaging service that is simple to use, easy to personalize and has an immediacy that is necessary for mobile communications," said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President for BBM at BlackBerry. "With more than a billion Android, iOS, and BlackBerry smartphones in the market, and no dominant mobile instant messaging platform, this is absolutely the right time to bring BBM to Android and iPhone customers."
BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) functions on data and allows users to send as many messages as they like without them having to worry about extra charges if they don't have unlimited texting. It was extremely popular from 2007-2010 while the BlackBerry smartphone was at the height of its popularity.
