'Beetlejuice 2' Movie Release Date, Cast Spoilers: Tim Burton On Board, Michael Keaton and Winona Rider Returning?
Since the 1990s, rumors of a sequel to the "Beetlejuice" movie have been floating around. But it wasn't until two years ago that things seem to be shaping up for the next installment to the beloved horror/comedy flick.
It has been reported that screenwriter and producer Seth Grahame-Smith ("Dark Shadows") has started work on a new script for "Beetlejuice 2," and Tim Burton has entered preliminary talks for him to direct the sequel, according to Screenrant.com. An actual release date has not been firmed up yet but if the latest rumors surrounding the sequel live up to their word then the premiere date may not been too long off.
In an interview with MTV at the junket for "Robocop" last February, Michael Keaton, who played Beetlejuice, said that he and Burton have casually discussed plans for the sequel, and that he was looking forward to reprise his role.
"I've emailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really, preliminary stuff until relatively recently. I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved in some way or another," said Keaton.
Winona Ryder, who played the teenage goth Lydia Deetz, is also willing to be part of the sequel, despite warnings from people who were against making the follow up to the movie.
"It's a very precious movie to people. So there are a lot of people like, 'DON'T,'" Ryder told The Daily Beast.
The 42-year old actress also acknowledged the impact of the first "Beetlejuice" movie on her career.
"I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later … I'm so associated with it. I think it gave me my career," she said.
