'Believe Me' Features Students Posing as a Christian Ministry for Money, Full-Length Trailer Debuts
The full-length trailer for the film "Believe Me" debuted this week and gives viewers a first look at its plot which revolves around a group of college students posing as a Christian ministry for money.
"Does the guy holding the microphone always hold the truth? Already ruffling feathers, and with over half a million views on its teaser trailer, Riot Studios now releases the official theatrical trailer for their religious satire 'Believe Me,' which challenges the power of platforms," read the press release.
The fake ministry, known as "The God Squad" is created by the students in order pay off the tuition of the group's leader, and main character Sam, played by Alex Russell.
Sam previously led a life void of traditional Christian values that included activities such as keg stands and random hook-ups. He ends up needing a large amount of money after a college advisor tells him that his scholarship expired and decides to create a group to con Christians.
This "God Squad" generates a buzz in the faith community and tours the country. The group's tour manager, Callie, catches the eye of Sam as a love interest and she eventually challenges him on his beliefs and mission.
The film's producer Alex Carroll also commented on marketing for "Believe Me" in the press release.
"The online generation suspects sponsored content," he said. "So we're paying fans, even motivating them, to do what fans do: to tell their friends. What better way to hear about a new movie."
The film currently has over 6,000 active marketers all around the U.S. utilizing social media to promote it.
"Believe Me" was written and directed by Will Blake, co-written by Michael Allen and produced by Alex Carroll. The cast also includes Christopher McDonald, Grammy-Award winning rapper Lecrae, Zachary Knighton and Johanna Braddy.
The film will be released in theaters and on demand Sept. 26.
