Ben and Jerry's Free Cone Day 2012
The Vermont-based ice cream company Ben & Jerry's have kicked off their Free Cone Day Tuesday, April 3.
From noon to 8 p.m. customers who visit any Ben & Jerry's shop across the nation may enjoy complimentary ice cream as part of celebrating 34 years in business.
"As a way to thank our customers for their support and to celebrate 34 years of scooping the chunkiest, funkiest ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet, Ben & Jerry's scoop shops are giving it away," said a statement from the company.

Founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield have held Free Cone Day since the company's first anniversary in 1979 at their store in Burlington, Vermont. The company has since been acquired by Unilever, but the tradition remains.
Over 1 million cones are expected to be distributed Tuesday, according to CNN.
Messages have flooded Twitter Tuesday with users sounding off about their excitement over Free Cone Day, with both Ben & Jerry's and Free Cone Day becoming trending topics.
"Ben and Jerry's free cone day," posted Shawn. "Best news ever!"
Grace posted, "It's Ben & Jerry's free ice cream cone day!?! Whaaaattttt!!! BEST. DAY. EVER."
"Alright it's free cone day and I'm willing to break my diet for a few cone so who wants to drive 3 hours to a b&j's," wrote Amanda.
Brittany replied to news of Free Cone Day by writing, "Yes please, sorry weight watchers, can't pass this opportunity up."
The ice cream company advertises new Greek frozen yogurt flavors in addition to unique and decadent ice cream flavors.
Twitter users are also posting their favorite ice cream flavors on Twitter on Ben & Jerry's 34th anniversary.
"Ben & Jerry's Phish Food is probably the best creation ever," wrote Jamie of the chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, caramel, and fudge.
"Free Cone day," wrote Caroline. "I love Ben and Jerry's Coffee ice cream."
Many ice cream flavors boast unusual ingredients, such as Late Night Snack which sees vanilla ice cream with salty caramel swirl and fudge covered potato chips.
Another example of Ben & Jerry's various ice cream flavors includes New York Super Fudge Chunk, which consists of chocolate ice cream with white and dark fig chunks, pecans, walnuts, and fudge covered almonds.
