Best Buy Pre-Black Friday TV Sale: Is the LG, 47-Inch LED TV Bundle for $799 a Good Deal?

Amazon reviewers give their take on the discounted TV

Best Buy's early Black Friday sales are starting to heat up with more offers and bigger deals on TVs this weekend. But just because the price is low, that does not mean the quality is high. By looking at reviews of other shopper's experiences with the TV you are looking to get, you can know if the Black Friday sale is actually a deal.

The biggest early Black Friday deal on hand at Best Buy is the LG - 47-inch Class LED, 1080p,120Hz, 3D HDTV 3D Blu-ray Player Bundle for $799. On Amazon, the regular price for this package is about $1,200, so the $500 in savings are substantial. Moreover, the reviews seem to be overwhelmingly positive, although there are some drawbacks.

To appreciate what the early Black Friday sale is, however, it is important to know what is inside. Aside from a big-screem 3D, HDTV, the bundle includes a 3D Blu-ray player, a TV stand, one remote, and four pairs of 3D glasses.

Some of the features of the TV include an ultra-slim design, and an XD Engine, which is supposed to improve brightness, contrast, detail, and colors, according to Best Buy's website.

On Amazon.com, this bundle had a 4.5 stars average rating out of 16 reviews. Nearly every review lauded the TV for its great image, but many also criticized the sound. As one reviewer put it, the sound was "watchable, but nothing amazing.”"

"The picture is crystal clear, the sound is whats to be expected from a flat panel set," said on reviewer.

The same reviewer added: "The actual 3d effects are astounding, and the tv will convert any 2d into 3d, this however leave some to be desired if you are used to things shot in 3D. But still a nice feature. Overall the only feature I could say would be nice for some is a the apps some smart tv's have."

Another review said that although the sound is not superior, the benefits outweigh the positive. "Awesome picture and its wonderful to be able with a flick of a button go from 2d to 3d. Clarity is fantastic. I don't care that someone said the sound is horrible we have not had any issue with it nor do I need a sound bar for it."

The most critical review was from a gamer's perspective: "The LW5300 doesn't seem to be tuned for fast motion video sources running at 30-60fps, that's the best way I can put it."

He added: "There is a noticeable lag between what you do with the controller and what happens on the screen, it's not huge lag but in fast motion like shooters where you're trying to line up your cross-hair on a target, this produces over and under correcting problems. In Gears of War 3, doing an active reload I would hit the button to stop the slider bar and the bar continued to move for a few milliseconds farther than were I intended it to stop."

Based on the various reviews, the bundle appears to be a great deal for the price, especially since the quoted reviews were from people who bought the unit at a higher price than Best Buy's $799 early Black Friday deal. However, there are some audio drawbacks, and according to one gamer, it may not be the best unit.
