Bethany Hamilton and Husband to Be Part of 'The Amazing Race' Season 25
"The Amazing Race" is set to kick off its 25th season in Sept. 26, and CBS has announced its official cast. Among the cast is pro surfer Bethany Hamilton.
Hamilton lost one of her arms in a brutal shark attack while surfing in 2003. She has inspired the movie "Soul Surfer" which stars Anna Sophia Robb. Hamilton will be joined by her husband Adam Dirks.
Aside from Hamilton, other celebrities and reality show stars have been cast as well. TNA wrestlers Brooke Adams and Robbie E. Strauss will also be in the show, as well as 'Survivor: South Pacific" contestants Keith Tollefson and Whitney Duncan.
According to Yahoo TV, the three celebrity pairs spoke about what they hoped to achieve when they joined "The Amazing Race."
"We sometimes have a hard time communicating when we are frustrated with one another," Dirks said of Hamilton. "I want us to be more open and talk about these frustrations before they build up into something bigger."
Duncan said that she and Tollefson "can be really stubborn."
"We are so competitive, and when we get in game mode, kindness goes out the window," she added.
Meanwhile, Adams is in the race in hopes of repairing her relationship with Strauss, as she said that she wants "to trust Rob again. He has hurt me deeply in the past."
The 25th season will also feature a new twist called "The Save," wherein the team that finishes first in the first race earns a save which they can use to keep themselves from being eliminated should they come in last place in another race.
Other pairs who will be competing are: Misti and Jim Raman, married dentists from South Carolina; Maya Warren and Amy DeJong, food scientists and friends from Wisconsin; Dennis Hour and Isabelle Du, a dating couple from California; Kym Perfetto and Alli Forstyle, both cyclists and friends from New York; Lisa and Michele Thomson, sisters from Florida; Michael Ward and Scott Strazzullo, firefighters and friends from Boston, Massachusetts; Shelley and Nici Porter, mother and daughter team from Michigan, and Timothy Tsao and Te Jay McGrath, a dating couple from California.
"The Amazing Race" season 25 will premiere on Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
