'Better Call Saul' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Bob Odenkirk not to compete with 'Breaking Bad'

Star of the spin-off series "Better Call Saul" Bob Odenkirk addressed his feelings about following the footsteps of the hit series "Breaking Bad."

Odenkirk recently spoke to DNA India about his sentiments regarding his role in the spin-off series. "I don't think I have to one up Walter White or Breaking Bad. We all thought about this show, and the phenomenon of Breaking Bad. Part of it can't be competed with by any show, because streaming TV was not a thing when Breaking Bad began, and it was when it ended. As for the creative part, we just do our best to make a unique and interesting show. I probably should feel the pressure, but I just don't. Maybe it's because I've been in show business for thirty years... I feel happy and excited about this great, funny and unique show."

Co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould also spoke about their corner regarding the spin-off series, while it was still in development. They thought that viewers were expecting to see the persona of Saul Goodman in the spin-off, instead of the character before he became Saul Goodman. However, to their surprise, fans were happy to know about the real Jimmy McGill and his development into the character seen in Breaking Bad. Many are expressing their likeness for Jimmy McGill, as opposed to the flamboyant Saul Goodman. The first season introduced Jimmy and his principles, juxtaposing him with Saul's questionable values. With that, viewers expect to see his character change and progress throughout his challenges.

Peter Gould told the Hollywood Reporter that they were expecting his character to evolve into Saul Goodman by episode 10 of the first season. However, they changed their minds when they realized that the character was still not ready for it. He said that it was an "organic struggle" that Jimmy will continue to face for the series.
