'Better Call Saul' Season 3 News and Spoilers: Cold and Manipulative Drug Lord Fring to Appear as Closeted Homosexual in Series?

The theory that Gus Fring is a closet gay stems from his close relationship with his business partner Max in Breaking Bad

As every avid fan of the AMC crime drama series "Better Call Saul" would know by now, Breaking Bad's biggest villain, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) will be making a guest appearance in the spin-off prequel. This has long been teased by Better Call Saul creators, who cleverly hid the letters that spelled "FRINGSBACK" behind the titles of last season's episodes.

Fring's return is confirmed

"Better Call Saul" lead, Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy McGill, also confirmed Esposito's appearance in the show in a television interview in Jimmy Kimmel's talk show last month. But, what many fans do not probably know, much less expect, is that Fring's appearance in Better Call Saul will be that of a closeted homosexual.

Gus Fring flashback

According to a report, the theory that Fring might be gay stemmed from a "Breaking Bad" Season 4 episode where the back story of Gus Fring with the Mexican Cartel was tackled. It is being said that Gus may have had special feelings for his business partner then, Max (James Martinez).

In that episode titled Hermanos, Gus gave away free samples of meth to Don Eladio's (Steven Bauer) associates in order to get an audience with the drug cartel boss. This angered Don Eladio and when he met with Gus and his partner Max, Tio Salamanca (Mark Margolis) shot Max in the head.

It was also learned from the episode that Gus and Max ran the restaurant Los Pollos Hermanos together. It was emphasized that Max was Gus' protégé, whom he held in high esteem.

More than friends

Others were led to believe however that there was more to their relationship than friendship. This theory was made stronger with the fact that Gus took out all the cartel leaders in order to avenge Max' death. This will be something that Walter White (Bryan Cranston) would never do for his own protégé, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul).

Since "Better Caul Saul" is a prequel, many fans are hoping that Max himself will do a cameo, before he and Gus had the run-in with the cartel. Another thing the viewers will definitely want to see is Gus before he turned into a cold and manipulative drug lord.

When will Fring be back?

The question that is foremost in Better Call Saul's avid viewers' minds is when Fring will be making an appearance in the show. The answer may not be as soon as fans would expect, it appears.

Showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan revealed in an interview that Fring's "Better Call Saul" Season 3 appearance may actually take some time to happen given the character's cautious and meticulous nature.
