'Better Call Saul' Season 3 Update: Breaking Bad Villain To Star In New Season; Jimmy Will Go Dark and Underground

Season 3 is when things really explode says Bob Odenkirk

It has long been suspected that Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), the cold blooded killer and notorious drug kingpin from the cult favorite "Breaking Bad", will be the star of "Better Call Saul" Season 3. As everybody knows, the series is the spinoff/prequel of "Breaking Bad".

Message behind the episode titles

"Better Call Saul" Season 3 lead star Bob Odenkirk himself confirmed the news when he made an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live". Ever since the show's Season 2 finale aired, fans have figured this development through the clever little message that was hidden in all of the season's episode titles. It turns out that when the first letters of the titles were put together, "Fring's Back" is spelled out.

Odenkirk told Kimmel that it was the show's way of pointing to Esposito's starring role in "Better Call Saul" Season 3. Fring is not the first character from "Breaking Bad" to make a cameo in the spinoff. Tuco Salamanca (Raymond Cruz), Hector "Tio" Salamanca (Mark Margolis), Ken (Kyle Bornheimer) and Domingo "Krazy-8" Molina (Maximino Arciniega) are just some of the characters from the old series that appeared in the first two seasons of "Better Call Saul".

As to when fans can expect to see Fring for the first time in the coming season, Odenkirk replied, "I imagine he'll be in the first moment..."

In an interview, the actor said "Better Call Saul" Season 3 is when things things really explode. Viewers will learn that Saul is just who he has been pretending to be in order for him to get back at the world. He added that innocence will be wiped away in the upcoming season.

Emmy nomination and show's success

Nominated for an Emmy this year for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, Odenkirk attributed the Emmy nomination and the show's success to his and the rest of the team behind "Better Call Saul" having "lucked out".

Odenkirk explained this thought with "Breaking Bad" ending even while it was still having a successful run. Otherwise, they in the spinoff series, would not have been able to have the goodwill needed to get into both shows' characters and take the viewers to a very delicate and sensitive story."

Morphing to a dark and underground character

Odenkirk plays Jimmy McGill, a young lawyer who later changes more than his name when he turns dark and morphs into attorney Saul Goodman, an underworld lawyer. In the "Better Call Saul" Season 2 finale, Jimmy was set up by his brother, Chuck, for a downfall. The impact of the set up will unfold in the new season.

There has been no official announcement yet from AMC when "Better Call Saul" Season 3 will premiere. It is expected to be sometime in early 2017.
