Beyoncé Dad Tax Bill: Owes Over $1.2 Million After Parting From Daughter
Beyonce's father and former manager, Mathew Knowles, could owe the IRS over $1 million in taxes, according to reports.
Mathew Knowles worked as his daughter's manager for several years, beginning with her start in Destiny's Child. Knowles founded Music World Entertainment in 1992, two years after Destiny's Child was first formed. During the time, Knowles earned millions of dollars.
But some of that money may belong to the government. Knowles owes the IRS over $1.2 million, according to TMZ. Beyonce cut ties with her father professionally after 2011, but during that year and the year before it appears that Knowles did not properly file his taxes. As a result, the IRS has filed a tax lien for 2010 in the amount of$485,575.95 and 2011 in the amount of$728,004.89. The grand total amounts to $1,213,580.84.
Knowles has continued with other side projects in the music industry since cutting ties with his daughter. He is currently worth about $50 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. In a recent interview with Oprah, Beyonce explained that having her father as a manager was difficult because he didn't always treat her like an adult.
"It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding. When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock," she said during "Oprah's Next Chapter" in February. "And we had our issues. I'd say 'No' to something, and he'd book it anyway. Then I'd have to do it because I'd look bad [if I didn't]. We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, 'Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't wanna do something, I can't make her do it.'"
Mathew Knowles did not immediately comment on reports concerning the tax lien.
