Bible Verses That Give Insight Into the Importance of Accountability

We are all accountable for our actions in some way. Children are responsible for being disobedient to parents, as well as wives are for being faithful to their husbands. Why is it necessary to be accountable?

If we are not accountable for our actions, than it is very possible that we live lesser lives. We wouldn't try as hard in school because in the end it wouldn't matter. Having a strong relationship with the Lord does not shield us from needing accountability. We do not want to be deceived by Satan, but we must decide ourselves on the subject. We all need that one person we can tell anything too and it doesn't make them mad at us. We need to be able to speak the truth in love.

1. We are accountable to warn the unbelievers

"When I say to the wicked, 'You wicked person, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood" (Ezekiel 33:8).

2. We are accountable for the words we speak

"But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matthew 12:36-37).

3. We must be accountable for how we live our lives

"So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God" (Romans 14:12).

4. Teachers are accountable for their students

"Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly" (James 3:1).

5. Leaders are responsible for those who serve under them

"Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you" (Hebrews 13:17).
