'Big Bang Theory' season 9 spoilers: Two parents set to return to show

When "The Big Bang Theory" returns to TV for its ninth installment, fans will be seeing Sheldon's mom again. According to Entertainment Weekly, the producers of the sitcom revealed that actress Laurie Metcalf will be returning to the show to reprise her role as Sheldon's mom, Mary Cooper.

She will be back in the first episode of season nine after making her TBBT debut back in 2007 episode titled "The Luminous Fish Effect." Yibada noted that Metcalf has returned in six other episodes before. She was also on "Getting On" and "The McCarthys."

Mary Cooper has been known by followers to appear in the show whenever her son is in trouble or has problems. Often times, she just comes to visit. She just recently met Leonard's mom, Beverly Hofstadter, when both women visited to celebrate their sons' receipt of a physics award. In the last episode of season eight, it can be remembered that Sheldon went through a bad heartbreak after his girlfriend Amy broke up with via a Skype call. It seems like Mary's return next season has something to do with her son's heart issue. Hopefully, she will be there to console Sheldon.

But Mary Cooper isn't the only one reprising a role in "The Big Bang Theory" as Inquisitr reported that Penny's father, played by Keith Carradine, will return in episode three. So far, Keith Carradine has only been in the show once in an episode in season 4 titled "The Boyfriend Complexity."

According to sources, his appearance next season has something to do with Penny looking for family support after running away with Leonard to Las Vegas and learning that her fiancé had kissed another woman.

The Big Bang Theory Season 9 will premiere on Monday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
