'Big Hero 6' sequel release date still unconfirmed; plot spoilers reveal new villain?

Sequel could be called 'Big Hero 7'

Disney's superhero animated feature film "Big Hero 6" is officially getting a sequel. The movie centers on a young boy named Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) and a life-sized inflatable robot named Baymax (Scott Adsit) and the special bond between them. It is touted as the guy version of the movie "Frozen" and is very popular among children, especially little boys. The movie is based on the Marvel comic of the same name.

The forthcoming sequel, which will still include Baymax and Hiro, will mostly focus on Tadashi (Daniel Henney), Hiro's older brother who supposedly died in a fire. Tadashi will most likely become the villain named Sunfire and battle against Baymax and the rest of the team because of his lost human memories. The sequel will be called "Big Hero 7."

Executive producer Stan Lee spoke about the company's plans.

"After Ant-Man, we're going to start playing around with Doctor Strange, the Black Panther, the Inhumans, and then we have to come back for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Big Hero 6, The Avengers, Captain America," he said.

Actress Genesis Rodriguez who voiced the character Honey Lemon in the film talked about the possibility of a sequel.

"There's rumblings of something else happening… I doubt that they wouldn't want another one. It was a huge success," she said.

The movie Big Hero 6 is one of the highest-grossing animated films. It grossed $521 million worldwide and is nominated for Best Animated Feature Film in the upcoming Academy Awards.

The directors of the movie Don Hall and Chris Williams talked about their next plans.

"(Laughs) We'll see. We just finished this one, and the truth is, we're exhausted from the ordeal of making it. It was really fun, but it was long hours, and it was pretty intense. It's a pretty emotional time for us. These are characters that we've grown to know very well, now it's time to let go of them, and they're going into the world without us. We're in the middle of that phase. So we haven't talked about or thought about any sequels or anything like that. Having said that, of course, we love these characters, and the thought of working with them again some day definitely has its appeal," said Don Hall.

"John Lassater's very supportive of the directors, and he won't force them to put out a sequel unless they have a story that really excited about. It has to feel like a story that really has to be told, or deserves to be told. It can't just be cashing in on the success of a previous film," he added.

There is no date yet for the sequel but it will most likely be released some time in 2017.
