'Big Little Lies' Star Nicole Kidman Reveals Getting Real Bruises From Filming; Tackles Celeste's Therapy Sessions
Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman, who currently stars and produces the HBO miniseries "Big Little Lies," has recently revealed that she gets real bruises from filming the show.
She has also discussed one of the most talked about scenes from the latest "Big Little Lies" episode which is her character's, Celeste Wright, therapy session with the psychologists circling on abuse.
Along with Kidman, the two other main characters of the miniseries are Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Martha Mackenzie and Shailene Woodley as Jane Chapman.
Celeste is depicted as the picture-perfect wife with the life that other people may think they would want to have. However, hidden in the public eye is Celeste's bout with her abusive husband, Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgård).
Kidman's portrayal has been gaining a lot of positive feedback. However, in a recent interview with Vogue, Kidman revealed that her great delivery of Celeste's character comes with literal pain and bruises.
"I would go home at night sometimes and be in a lot of pain, and I had to take things like Advil because I was being thrown around physically. I was really bruised," Kidman told Vogue.
The actress also admitted that the bruises do not sit well with her husband, Keith Urban, who, according to Kidman, would sometimes say, "I'm going to take a photo of your back because it's covered in deep, massive bruises." However, Urban would later on calm down and just exclaim that he has an actress wife and that it is part of the job description.
More than the physically painful scenes that Kidman goes through for the show, she admits - and fans would possibly agree as well - that Celeste's recent therapy session with her psychologist is, by far, one of the gems of "Big Little Lies."
Kidman admitted she is overwhelmed by the viewers' reception and it "makes [her] cry" when she learns how the therapy sessions affects fans and moves them to tears. She spoke of the talked about therapy session scene where Celeste is slowly coming to terms with the truth that her husband does not love her and has been nothing but an abusive partner.
"There's enormous amount of this in the world, it's insidious, it's not understood, it's very aligned with shame and secrecy and obviously pain and sacrifice and blame. All of those words are profoundly deep words and deep emotions. Yet the way in which it's done is that it slowly unravels. It's the way in which Celeste has to unravel herself," Kidman commented in the Vogue interview.
The seventh and final episode of "Big Little Lies" will air on Sunday, April 2, at 9 p.m. EDT.
