Bill Clinton Impeachment Drama Series Coming to History Channel
Bill Clinton's impeachment proceedings have been a TV sensation back in the late 90s, and History Channel could be looking to recapture the days that glued the nation to their TV sets with their upcoming adaptation called "The Breach: Inside the Impeachment of Bill Clinton."
The bestselling book by Peter Baker, with its comprehensive title "The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton," will be the basis of a new six-part drama series on the History Channel, according to Deadline.
R.J. Cutler, in charge of adapting the source material, also directed "The War Room," another documentary on Bill Clinton, according to Den of Geek. His previous series covered Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign and was nominated for an Oscar, making Cutler uniquely suited to handle History Channel's upcoming drama series.

History Channel's Executive Vice President of Programming Eli Lehrer describes the new project. "Featuring an array of well-known modern political figures, The Breach will bring audiences behind the scenes of an event that changed Washington forever – the first impeachment of an elected president in American history," he said, adding how the new series builds on History's current programming direction.
While the circumstances surrounding Clinton's impeachment was months in the making, "The Breach" will focus solely on the impeachment trial itself, with the show opening right to the grand jury in 1998.
Cutler noted that while the scandal with White House intern Monica Lewinsky was pivotal to the events, "we are not focused on the scandal per se too much," he said. The story will instead revolve around the impeachment trial and the characters in it.
The video below dated Jan. 26, 1998, which shows then-U.S. President Bill Clinton making a presentation, concludes at the 6:22 mark with the now-famous quote, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." More news of the History Channel adaptation is expected as casting is finalized in the coming weeks.
