Bill Cosby Rape Allegations Being Investigated By LAPD
Bill Cosby has been named by over 20 women who allege that he drugged and sexually assaulted them; now the Los Angeles Police Department is ready to officially investigate the matter.
Cosby, the 77-year-old comedian who became popular in the 1980s and 1990s family sitcom "The Cosby Show," has recently been the subject of media scrutiny due to the rising number of allegations brought against him. Lately, a number of women have come forth alleging that Cosby sexually assaulted them years ago.
One of Cosby's accusers, Judy Huth, who is suing Cosby for sexual battery, met with Los Angeles police detectives for 90 minutes. Now, it seems the LAPD is officially ready to look into the matter. After Huth filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging that she was sexually assaulted by Cosby when she was 15, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said his detectives would investigate no matter the timeframe.
"We don't turn people away because things are out of statute. You come to us, especially with a sexual allegation, we will work with you," Beck said in a Los Angeles Times report. "We address these things seriously, and it's not just because it's Mr. Cosby."
Cosby has been receiving backlash since allegations have been brought forth against him. The U.S. Navy stripped the comedian of his honorary title which he was given in 2011.
"The Navy is taking this action because allegations against Mr. Cosby are very serious and are in conflict with the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment," a statement from Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus read, according to Rumor Fix reports.
Cosby recently announced that he would step down from being on Temple University's Board of Trustees in light of all of the negative media attention he is receiving.
"I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students," Cosby said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. "As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University Board of Trustees."
