Bill Cosby is publicly thanking his celebrity supporters amid growing allegations of sexual assault.

Cosby, the 77-year-old comedian who became popular in the 1980s and 1990s family sitcom "The Cosby Show," has recently been the subject of media scrutiny. Lately, a number of women have come forth, alleging that Cosby sexually assaulted them years ago.

Despite the growing number of allegations that have surpassed one dozen women, some celebrities have defended Cosby. One of those celebrities is entertainer Whoopi Goldberg, who spoke about the topic on her talk show, "The View."

On her show, Goldberg said she believed "everyone is covering their butt" and said "until you know it's true, it's an allegation." The sentiments seemed to be appreciated by Cosby who tweeted, "Thank you @WhoopiGoldberg."

Singer and actress Jill Scott, who was presented with an honorary Temple University doctorate degree by Cosby, also recently took to Twitter to defend the comedian.

"If this is true, he'll face his due just like everyone," she responded to fans in one tweet before writing, "I'm respecting a man who has done more for the image of Brown people than almost anyone EVER. From Fat Albert to the Huxtables."

Cosby's family also thanked Scott by tweeting, "Thank you @MissJillScott, from the Cosby Family."

Braxton Cosby, the comedian's nephew who is a leading production executive at Cosby Media Productions, told FarrahGray.com that he will stand by his uncle "unless the judicial system can prove otherwise."

Braxton went on to compare his uncle's issues to that of a Biblical story.

"I would be more inclined to compare it to the passage in the Bible where the people of the village were about to stone the woman caught in adultery and Jesus challenged them by saying that the person who is without sin should cast the first stone," Braxton told the website, according to PEOPLE. "The one difference in this case being that the woman was caught in the act and her accusers brought her forward. I want to remind everyone that we live in the greatest country in the entire world, one that prides itself on the moral law that everyone is innocent until proven guilty."
