Bill Maher Advises Liberals to Accept Rush Limbaugh's Apology

Bill Maher is well known for his staunch liberal views and has in the past made his own derogatory statements about females, including former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Now Maher is calling on everyone, especially liberals, to accept Rush Limbaugh's apology for using the words "slut" and "prostitute" in reference to a Georgetown college student.

"Hate to defend #RushLimbaugh but he apologized, liberals looking bad not accepting. Also hate intimidation by sponsor pullout," wrote Maher on Twitter on Tuesday.

Maher, meanwhile, has a long history of raunchy comments toward women. He has called Palin a "dumb t***" and joked that Palin's Down Syndrome child was the result of her having sex with former Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards.

Maher's call for liberals to embrace Limbaugh's apology comes on the heels of over 20 advertisers who have said they are pulling their ads from Limbaugh's popular radio program.

Some of the advertisers include: Geico, Netflix, Goodwill, PolyCom web conferencing, Accuquote Life Insurance, Vitacost vitamin supplier, Sensa weight- loss program, Thompson Creek Windows, AOL, Tax Resolution Services, ProFlowers, Legal Zoom online document creator, Carbonite web security firm, Citrix software maker, Sleep Train Mattresses, Sleep Number mattresses and Quicken Loans.

Limbaugh apologized to Georgetown student Sandra Fluke in a written apology on Saturday, but Fluke rejected the overture and called the apology "insufficient." Fluke had testified before a panel of congressional Democrats in support of President Obama's policy of mandating free contraceptives to all female employees, even at religious institutions (such as hospitals and colleges) that object to such services.

Although several of the companies canceled their ad buys, Americans for Prosperity, a free-market advocacy group, accepted Limbaugh's apology and said they would continue to advertise on his show.

"Rush apologized for comments that went over the line, and that should be enough," said Levi Russell, a spokesman for the group. "The reason we support Rush in this is because we agree with his core point, that it is truly outrageous to obligate the American people to subsidize the private life of Ms. Fluke or anyone else."

Brent Bozell of Media Research Center spoke with The Christian Post on Tuesday and said Democrats were trying to take advantage of Limbaugh's inappropriate comments by not accepting his apology.

"Their first objective in denying Limbaugh's apology is to divert attention away from the religious liberty issue the Republicans were so successful in advocating," said Bozell. "But the bigger issue is they want to get rid of Rush since 1994 and now they think they have a chance."
