Billie Lourd Leia Role Landed: Carrie Fisher's Daughter Takes Over Iconic 'Star Wars' Part?

Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd will appear in her mother's iconic role as Princess Leia in Disney's highly anticipated "Star Wars: Episode VII."

The 21-year-old actress is relatively unknown, but because of her resemblance to her famous mother, director J. J. Abrams selected Lourd for the role, according to several reports this week. The Latino Review indicated that Lourd will be playing a young Leia during flashbacks due to the family likeness between the actress and Fisher, 57. However, Fisher nor Disney has commented on the casting news.

Meanwhile, Fisher has undergone extreme preparation for her reprisal of Princess Leia. It has been decades since the actress first played the romantic interest of Hans Solo in the original "Star Wars" trilogy by George Lucas. The actress revealed that she had dropped over 35 pounds in order to appear in the new Disney take on "Star Wars."

"They didn't hire me, they hired me minus 35 pounds," the 57-year-old actress said on the red carpet on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Moreover, the actress had previously revealed that Disney Studios hired a trainer to help with the weight loss.

"I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape," she said last April, according to the Calgary Sun. "So I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything."

Notwithstanding, Fisher had noted that reprising her role as Princess Leia after over two decades is "trippy" before describing the first table read as "great," according to the Los Angeles Times. The starlet also said she has "a wonderful time" meeting the new faces of the epic space opera franchise created by Lucas. However, the actress remained tight-lipped about other details surrounding the highly-anticipated "Star Wars" since she would "get in trouble" for discussing the film.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is expected to hit theaters in December of 2015.
