'Billions' Season 2 Spoilers: Axe Plans to Beat Chuck by 'Breaking Him'
In the sneak peek video for the next episode of "Billions," fans can see Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Damian Lewis) plotting a way to defeat Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) by "breaking him."
"Billions" is a Showtime TV drama series that explores the story of the underlying power struggle among the people of New York's high finance realm. One of the main characters, Axe, is a hedge fund survivor brought about by 9/11. He has now becomeone of Wall Street's started-from-the-bottom billionaires but his ways are somewhat shady.
Axe naturally loathes Chuck who is a lawyer and prosecutor with the goal of winning cases against financial corruption. Earlier in the show, Chuck found pieces of evidence that could take down Axe's business. However, the tricky part is his wife Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), who has been working with Axe since the early days of the billionaire's business and even before Chuck became a U.S. Attorney.
A desperate Axe can be seen in the trailer for the next episode called "Optimal Play." While talking to someone, he says, "Breaking him (Chuck) is the only way to beat him." Before the trailer ends, he discreetly meets with an informant who tells him that "Rhoades is not exploitable at this moment."
However, Axe refused to accept the report and responds, "I hear his name in my sleep." But the informant argues that there is no opening to infiltrate Rhoades, to which an agitated Axe rebuts, "Find one."
Based on the dialogue, it is apparent that Axe is up on his heels to find anything to get Chuck off his shoulders. However, it looks like the circumstances are not in his favor.
In the meantime, the official synopsis of the upcoming episode says Axe is on the verge of acquiring a team in the National Football League.
On the other hand, it also mentions that Chuck will start on his "last-ditch case against a banking titan." In the video preview Chuck tells a man, "Never give in... except to convictions of honor and good sense." The episode summary also hints at Chuck acquiring a "low-level informant" as part of his case versus the banking mogul.
"Billions" season 2, episode 3 airs on Sunday, March 5, at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime.
