Billy Graham Released from North Carolina Hospital
Evangelist Billy Graham was released yesterday, June 7 from Mission Hospitals in Asheville, North Carolina after having undergone a minimally invasive procedure May 20 to stabilize a pelvic fracture he sustained at home. Graham’s physicians said they are greatly encouraged by his progress.
“He has made tremendous progress for a man of his age,” said orthopedic surgeon Daniel Eglinton, MD, who performed the stabilization surgery with orthopedic traumatologist C. Michael LeCroy, MD. “He has had no complications. The pelvis is stable, and it appears as if the surgery has done what was intended.”
Lucian Rice, MD, Internal Medicine specialist and longtime physician to the Graham family added, “He is doing very well. He still has an extended program of rehabilitation ahead of him, but he is mentally keen and very determined. His surgeons have done an excellent job, both in their decision-making about the best approach to making the repair, and in performing the surgery itself. His prognosis is good.”

For the next three months, Graham will continue intensive physical therapy at home. Graham said that he will use the weeks of rehabilitation at home for writing and to prepare for preaching opportunities at his next two crusades, which were rescheduled late May, following his hospitalization. The Greater Los Angeles Billy Graham Crusade, previously scheduled for July 29 to August 1 in Pasadena, was moved to November 18-21. While the Heart of America Crusade, previously scheduled for June 17-20 in Kansas City, was moved to October 7-10.
Graham was admitted to Mission Hospitals after suffering a fall May 14. Graham had been home recovering from a partial hip replacement performed January 6 at Mayo Clinic’s St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
