World renowned evangelist Billy Graham revealed what he thinks is the greatest spiritual mistake people often make.

Graham wrote in a May 2 post for his Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's website that when it comes to spending your life in eternity, your good acts are not enough to God.

This is because according to the Bible, the only way we could reach God's standard of goodness is by being completely perfect. Graham cites Habakkuk 1:13, which reads: "Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing."

Therefore, it is a "mistake" for Christians to think their goodness alone will get them into heaven, Graham writes.

"The greatest mistake anyone can ever make is to assume that they are good enough to go to Heaven. And yet countless people make this mistake every day, thinking their good deeds will somehow outweigh their bad deeds and make them eligible for Heaven," the evangelical preacher says. "God is absolutely holy and perfect, and even one sin—just one—would be enough to banish us from His presence."

The only way Christians can believe they have a spot in eternity is not through their "goodness," but rather through their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Jesus died for our sins on the cross, and therefore a close relationship with Him allows us to be saved from our wrongdoings.

"[Jesus] was without sin (for He was God in human flesh) — but on the cross all our sins were placed on Him, and He took upon Himself the judgment and Hell that we deserve. He died in our place," the Baptist minister writes.

"Don't trust in yourself or your own goodness for your salvation. Instead, commit your life to Jesus Christ and put your faith and trust in Him. Then you will know that someday you will go to be with Him in Heaven forever— not because of your goodness, but because of His," Graham concludes.
