Bishops of the Anglican Church in South Africa today released a statement allaying growing concern that its clergy could be forced to marry same-sex couples or do anything that the Church does not believe or permit.

Bishops of the Anglican Church in South Africa today released a statement expressing growing concern that its clergy could be forced to marry same-sex couples or do anything that the church does not believe or permit.

The May 5th statement comes after a November 30, 2004 Supreme Court decision to treat same-sex unions equally to male-female marriages under common law concept of marriage.

The bishops - who met from May 2-5 in Kempton Park, South Africa
