Black Friday 2011 Ad: Kmart, Walmart Video Game Deals Compared
Kmart, which just released its 48-page Black Friday ad and will be opening its doors at 5 a.m. for its after-Thanksgiving Day sales, is offering some great discounts on video games and consoles for the holiday season, but do they trump those being offered by Walmart?
Some of the best Black Friday sales being offered by Kmart include doorbusters such as the Flaming Red Nintendo 3DS with Super Mario Land 3D for $179 plus a $25 gaming coupon, in addition to a Playstation 3 Holiday Bundle for $199.99, which includes the games "Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One" and "LittleBigPlanet 2 Special Edition." Walmart, by contrast, is offering the Playstation 3 for the same price without the bonus video games.
However, Walmart does seem to have a leg up on video game prices, with most ranging from $28 to as low as $10. The $10 games for Playstation 3 include "Kany and Lynch 2," "Pure," "Shrek Forever After" and "Yakusa 4," while those for Xbox 360 include "007 Quantum of Solace," "Bioshock 2," "Sing It" and "UFC 2010." Kmart is offering some of the more popular video games at doorbuster prices typically between $20 and $40, with titles for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 such as "Madden NFL 12," "NCAA Football 12," "Need for Speed: The Run," and "FIFA Soccer 12" selling for $39.99. In addition, the retailer is offering games such as "Medal of Honor" and "Enslaved" for Xbox 360 as doorbusters for $9.99.
Many popular retailers, such as Toys "R" Us, Best Buy and Macy's, are opening their doors at midnight this Black Friday and expanding their hours in an effort to capitalize on one of the biggest sales days of the year in a poor economy.
Marking the beginning of the holiday shopping season, Black Friday is known to be a day of chaos as shoppers scramble to scoop up the best sales while they can. In 2008, a Long Island, N.Y., Walmart made headlines after an employee was trampled to death by a stampede of hundreds of people as they rushed through the retailer's front doors at the store's opening on Black Friday.
