Black Friday 2011: Best Buy Offers Big iMac Discount, Massive Computer Savings
Best Buy will offer a discount on iMacs this Black Friday, along with dozens of other retailers who are putting laptops and desktops on sale this season.
More than 364 million personal computers will be sold this year. That means great savings are available at a number of retailers this holiday season.
Computers are the perfect gift for a loved one, yourself, or a (very) close friend – they are guaranteed to please, they provide a valuable service and with new models coming out once or twice a year for some makers, most people could use an update.
Retailers will offer a bunch of sales on laptop and desktop units this year. Like for any big purchase, do some research and find the right computer for the person to whom it will be given.
Here is a preliminary run-down of this year’s Black Friday savings on computers from the top four computer sellers in the U.S., arranged by maker.
APPLE
The iMac is a glorious behemoth. The sleek-looking desktop has a giant monitor, quad-core processor and the flexibility users have come to expect with Apple products. Best Buy will offer up to $100 off the iMac, which is listed at $1,200.
The Macbook Pro and Macbook Air are wonderful laptop computers, but they tend to be pricier than most PCs. Apple lists the Macbook Air – a light-weight, paper-thin and ultra-quick laptop – at about $1,000. The Pro starts at $1200. It’ll have more memory, a CD-rom drive and will generally be more powerful. Unfortunately, these items are in such high demand that Black Friday savings are unlikely, but a site like blackfridaymacbook.com promises to alert users as soon as potential savings are released.
HP
HP is the leading seller of desktops and laptops in the U.S. It offers three lines for consumers on any budget.
Staples will sell an HP Quad Core A8-300 for $450. The office supply retail giant will also sell two other HP desktops with Intel processors for less than $400.
Walmart will sell two HP laptops, one a dual core, 15.6-inch for $250 and the other, a slightly larger, more powerful version, for $388.
Best Buy will sell both HP desktops and laptops. They will offer desktop bundles for less than $450, including printer, monitor and a 5GB RAM desktop. They will also offer two laptop models slightly more powerful than the ones offered at Walmart, priced accordingly.
DELL
Dell was long the leading computer producer but has since fallen off. That said, they still sell a ton of computers.
From now until Friday, Dell is offering an Inspiron 15-inch laptop for $500. On Black Friday Dell will offer its entire line of Vostro laptops for around 10 percent off each.
Staples is offering that same Inspiron 15-inch laptop for $580 on Black Friday. Best Buy is reserving its savings on a Desktop with Intel Core and 4 GB RAM and 18-inch monitor until Black Friday
ACER
Acer is a surprising third in U.S. laptop sales and it’s quickly encroaching on Dell’s hold of second place. Acer’s designs are very similar to Apple’s, and users like functioning that is similar to a PC.
Walmart is offering a 17.3-inch Aspire laptop with Intel Core and 4GB RAM for $500. Acer’s Website is offering models of the Aspire for as low as $300. Best Buy is offering the Iconia 7-inch tablet for $190, while Staples is offering the 10-inch tablet for $300. Acer won’t go lower than $330 on its Website for any of its tablets.
