Customers can purchase the iPod Touch 5th generation device and will receive a $50 gift card which can be used on any products in store, to give an effective price of $149.99. Other stores are also offering similar deals: purchasing the iPod at Target for $195 will give customers a $40 gift card, purchasing the iPod at Radio Shack for $199.99 will give customers a $30 gift card.
Toys R Us, Radio Shack, and Target are getting an early start on Black Friday with early starting times such as 9:00 p.m. Thanksgiving evening, midnight on Friday and 5:30 a.m. on Black Friday morning.
In years gone by stores would schedule early start times on Black Friday itself, such as 5:00 a.m. or even 4:00 a.m. on Black Friday mornings, but this year many are encroaching closer and closer to the turkey hour.
In fact, with a 9:00 p.m. opening on Thursday, many shoppers will have to head to the stores to stand in line, right after the dinner hour.
This announcement follows Wal-Mart’s own announced scheduled opening at 10:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Beyond sales on site at department stores, many consumers are also shopping more frequently online, which encourages stores to publish circulars or announcements concerning discounts and deals early.
Also to make sure consumers show up to early shopping hours, stores have begun to tie available deals to specific schedules or times of day.
The iPod Touch has been a popular item for shoppers and stores are betting that shoppers will forgo extended turkey time for a chance to grab an iPod touch.
