Black Keys and Dr. John With New Album
Dr. John who was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, is set to release his new album in March with help from the Black Keys.
The singer, song-writer and musician, who was born Malcolm Rebennack, came to prominence in the 1970’s following his theatrical show and later his top-20 hit titled "Right Place Wrong Time."
The new album, "Locked Down," will be produced by the vocalist and guitarist of The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach under Nonesuch Records. His intent is to give Dr. John a whole new sound, complete with a band of young musicians that Auerbach picked himself. Auerbach held a high opinion of the famed musician.
“Mac inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically ... something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, Mac's one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be ... I'm so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him,” he wrote on the Nonesuch Records journal Tuesday.
Auerbach had approached Dr. John asking him to sign on and make "the best record you've made in a long time." Fortunately Rebennack wasn’t off put. "It was way cool cutting this record with Dan and the crew he put together for it," said Rebennack. "It's reel HIP."
The Black Keys are an American rock band that formed in 2001 and gained popularity after dropping out of college. In 2010 the group won three Grammy’s for the song “Tighten Up”. The band is currently on tour with their seventh album El Camino.
