BlackBerry Announces LTE Playbook
RIM plans to release an LTE PlayBook tablet computer later on this year, according to a statement made by the company's CEO Thorsten Heins at this week's Blackberry World event.
This is the first official confirmation for the device, although its announcement only backs up previous information regarding a PlayBook with LTE connectivity.
Heins did not announce a specific release date for the LTE PlayBook. But RIM's decision has skeptics puzzled since the company has failed with every other version of the device so far. What would make a more expensive model sell better?
Tech site, SlashGear stated the RIM believes the BlackBerry 10 will solve some of the problems that the tablet had. The company is pleased with the hardware and feels that the weak point was the software.
RIM released a new video this week that gave smartphone fans a first look at the upcoming Blackberry 10 handset.
In the video, Blackberry enthusiasts saw some of the features that will be included in the device, such as its unique touch-screen keyboard that provides the user with floating words to choose from when typing out the message.
The Blackberry 10 sports a much different design from its predecessors. It actually resembles the iPhone 4 or 4S with a thicker body and fairly large bezels, minus Apple's trademark home button.
Aside from the keyboard and design, the Blackberry is shown performing some of the same tricks that can be done on an iPhone or Android device.
It still features Blackberry's trademark alert light in the upper right corner that blinks red when you have a message and blue when it is linking up to bluetooth.
RIM failed to woo its audience with the release of new versions of the Torch, Curve and Bold lines.
Despite incorporating touch into many of the devices, the company still reported record losses this year.
