Blackberry Offers $100 Free Apps as Compensation for Outages
Blackberry has offered free apps to its customers after last week’s 3-day blackout.
Blackberry maker Research in Motion released a statement today, stating that customers will be offered $100 worth of free apps for the troubles last week.
"We truly appreciate and value our relationship with our customers," said Mike Lazaridis, Co-CEO of Research in Motion, in the statement.
"We've worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we're committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, today and in the future."
The outages started in Europe on Oct. 10 and spread throughout the Middle East, India, Africa, Latin America and North America. It wasn’t until Oct. 13 that the service was fully restored.
The apps will be available at the Blackberry App World Site in the next few weeks. Customers will be able to access the apps between Oct. 19 and Dec. 31.
Apps such as SIMS 3, Bejeweled, N.O.V.A., Texas Hold’em Poker 2, Bubble Bash 2, Photo Editor Ultimate - Ice Cold Apps, Drive Safe.ly Enterprise, Nobex Radio Premium, and Shazam Encore will be free.
However, Blackberry’s outage has prompted financial institutions in the U.K. such as Morgan Stanley and the Royal Bank of Scotland, to trial iPhones and iPads, according to the Daily Mail.
