Blackberry Outage Customers in North America to Sue
Lawsuits have been filed on behalf of all Blackberry owners in North America against Research in Motion (RIM) over the recent global outage that left its customers without email, instant message and web access for a total of four days.
According to BBC, a statement from RIM read: “RIM will formally respond to the matter in due course.”
The lawsuit alleges that RIM “is responsible for Blackberry users' loss of email, BB, and/or internet service for approximately one and a half days.”
The lawsuit also claims: "It has not compensated consumers on a prorated basis for such loss of use, while knowing full well that Blackberry users pay a monthly fee to their wireless service providers for data services and that they were deprived thereof."
The outage was caused by a system failure on Oct. 10 and lasted for up to four days.
Earlier this week, RIM apologized for the outage and announced that all customers would be receiving a package of free software worth $100.
The firm was criticized for its slow response to the global crash, with angry customers venting their frustrations on social media networks and Twitter.
