BlackBerry Rio: High End, All-Touch BlackBerry Phone Currently in Development
Since Apple and Samsung have started dominating the smartphone market, other companies have started stepping up their game to gain a bigger share of the profits generated from new smartphone releases, and BlackBerry is definitely one of them.
BlackBerry is long overdue when it comes to releasing a new device since its last high end smartphone, the BlackBerry Z3, has been released over a year ago. Now, it has been reported by N4BB that the company is developing a new high-end, all-touch handset, which would make it the second BlackBerry device fitting that description since the Z3.
"I am happy to exclusively reveal BlackBerry is in fact working on a new, high-end, all-touch codenamed "Rio," Writes Lucas Atkins. "Details, specs or otherwise any other specifics surrounding the "Savior" slate device are slim at this time."

BlackBerry, which is known for its devices with their QWERTY keyboards, has not gained the success that it hoped to achieve with its touch-all phones, which include the Z10, the Z30, and the Z5. The Z10 made its debut last January, and though its specs did not set it apart from other existing smartphones, it certainly wasn't inferior as it had a 4.7 inch display, a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and an 8 megapixel camera.
However, even the company's recent devices like the Passport and the Classic have yet to gain the kind of anticipation and following that Samsung and Apple currently enjoy. The Passport, which was launched earlier this year, is a square-shaped device that garnered mixed reviews, while the Classic, which will be released next month, is touted to be the company's back-to-basics phone with the addition of the BB10.
For the BlackBerry Rio to truly shine, it needs to incorporate better features and specs to stand out among all the latest offerings in the market. BlackBerry will also need to improve its software to attract those who are fans of iOS and Android.
