'Blade Runner 2' News: Dave Bautista Joins Movie Cast
Wrestler-actor Dave Bautista teased about his participation in the upcoming "Blade Runner 2" film late last week, and Alcon Entertainment has finally confirmed that he is, indeed, joining the sequel for an important supporting role.
On April 3, Bautista tweeted a photo of him holding an origami unicorn and captioning it with "I can't wait to share some really exciting news." For those aware of the first "Blade Runner" movie, the photo was already a major hint on Bautista's inclusion in the cast as the artistically folded paper is the same with the one left for Rick Deckard character of Harrison Ford as a reference to the dream that he had in the movie.
Additionally, according to Slash Film, Warner Bros. called their attention to the tweet of the wrestler-turned-actor. Realizing that the planned "Blade Runner 2" is under Warner Bros., the website was finally able to put two and two together, forming a conclusion that Bautista will be part of the film.
"Blade Runner 2," although not the official title of the film yet, will take on the events several decades after the first movie, which was shown way back in 1982. The script of the sequel is penned by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, which is based on the first story that was also inspired by Philip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
The first "Blade Runner" movie was released in 1982 and starred, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos. The movie follows the adventures of Ford's Rick Deckard character as a Replicant Hunter after he is forced by his police boss to reprise the job that he has already given up. With the assignment of eliminating the four Replicants that have escaped, Deckard is brought to Tyrell Corporation, wher he meets Rachel (Young), a Replicant, whom he eventually falls in love with.
"Blade Runner 2" will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and is slated to hit the theaters on Jan. 12, 2018. Apart from Bautista, the movie will also have Ford reprise his Rick Deckard character. Other actors that will be part of the sequel as of this writing are Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright.
