'Blade Runner 2049' News: 'Cowboy Bebop' Director Releases Anime Short Prequel to Upcoming Film

The upcoming American science fiction film titled, "Blade Runner 2049" has received a lot of hype since it was first announced. To keep the fans' attention on them, the crew behind the upcoming sequel to "Blade Runner" has released a 15-minute anime short, which is a prequel to the original film. Titled, "Blade Runner Black Out 2022," the third prequel was directed by "Cowboy Bebop" director Shinichiro Watanabe.

"Blade Runner Black Out 2022" is now available to view for free on Crunchyroll. The premise takes place three years after the events of the first film that was directed by Ridley Scott. Considering Watanabe's penchant for making memorable fight scenes, "Blade Runner Black Out 2022" should be an interesting watch for the fans of the film as well as "Cowboy Bebop." It explains the backstory that ultimately led to the banning of the Replicant production, which is a major event that took place is Scott's "Blade Runner."

Reports have also revealed that "Blade Runner 2022" remains faithful to the universe of the film. Despite its animated nature, the effects, language, and soundtrack coincide with those seen from the other "Blade Runner" releases. For those who remain dubious of the idea that it can be portrayed in animated form, the trailer should make a convincing argument.
