'Blade Runner 2049' Release Date, News: What Edward James Olmos's Casting Means for the Film
This year holds a lot of sequels in store for movie audiences, causing much anticipation. Arguably one at the top of the list is "Blade Runner 2049," and a recent casting news points to an inevitable reunion and a subtle twinge of nostalgia down one's spine.
In an interview with The Trend Talk, Edward James Olmos, who played as the veteran blade runner Gaff in the original film, has broken his silence and confirmed he is reprising his role. "Guess what? This is the first time that I'm telling the whole world, that yes, I am going to be Gaff in 'Blade Runner 2049,'" he says.
He did clarify, however, that the focus remains on Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling). "My role is like it was in the original — that time I only had four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it's a poignant little scene."
What does this mean then to the plot of the story? One can probably assume that Officer K would be making a pit stop by meeting Gaff, tracing the whereabouts of Deckard. If so, then Rick better be worth the effort in finding him as it's shaping up to be a long, arduous journey.
Another interesting thing to watch out for is how the film is said to be filmed mostly by using one camera only. Director Denis Villeneuve confirms this with Collider, saying he prefers it more with just one point of view. If anything, it may also give the effect that the audience is with the actors in the scene, and is in one area of the frame.
The film's synopsis revolves around Officer K's efforts in finding Deckard, who has been missing for 30 years. He seeks his aid in order to avert a tragedy that could plunge society further into chaos.
"Blade Runner 2049" makes its way to theaters on Oct. 6, 2017.
