Blake Griffin's Dunk Shocks Teammates, Fans and Fellow Athletes
NBA Player Blake Griffin shocked basketball fans this week by making a spectacular slam dunk for his team the Los Angeles Clippers against the Oklahoma Thunder.
The dunk is being talked about all over and the fact that it took place in a game against the Thunder who currently have the best record in the league made it that much more impressive and significant. It also solidified a win for Griffin's team.
The Clippers beat the Thunder 112-100 at the Staples Center on Monday night thanks to this magical play marking the arrival of the team for this year's season.
"We're learning," said Clippers guard Chris Paul. "We've just got to keep building an identity. We can't say we've arrived after winning this game. We're going to look at the film an there's still a lot of things we have to clean up."
Griffins dunk will not be one of those things. However, it did flood Twitter shortly after it took place during the third quarter of the game with 8:52 left in the game.
Paul bounced the ball to Griffin who was on his way to the basket. He then caught air about the rim at least three feet from the basket and jammed it in with one hand floating over Kendrick Perkins.
Sever other professional athletes took to their Twitter accounts to comment on the dunk.
"Duck of the Year! Wow," tweeted Miami Heat forward Lebron James.
"The best dunk I have ever seen in my life!! I can't stop rewinding it," said L.A. Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp.
His teammate DeAndre Jordan grabbed Griffin and bear hugged him until he finally broke free. The play was shown on the scoreboard about the court about nine times and the crowd expressed a strong reaction to it each time they saw it with oohs and ahhs.
"By the crowd's reaction, you can kind of gauge how it was," said Griffin. "And then my second gauge is DJ's reaction. He came up and arm-locked me. I couldn't breathe. I had to pull him off."
