Blake Shelton Goes Off on Critic, Defends 'Voice' Contestant: 'You Make Me Sick'
Blake Shelton fired back at a harsh music critic via Twitter this week, generating more controversy surrounding "The Voice."
Last week, Shelton's fellow mentor on the reality series caught flak for muttering "I hate this country," but this time, Shelton is in the hot seat.
The country music star aggressively responded to Twitter posts by music critic Joey Guerra of The Houston Chronicle on Tuesday night following the elimination of "The Voice" contestant Holly Tucker.
"OH. Holly Tucker is gone," started the journalist following Tuesday's elimination. "It took much too long. But finally. Back to Baylor University in Waco for you, madam."
Guerra's snide comment struck a chord with Shelton, who posted an onslaught of tweets directed at the critic.
"It's people like you @joeyguerra that make me sick," started the singer. "Holly is not only a talented singer but a great person that's simply chasing a dream."
Things quickly became more heated once Shelton called on Guerra for being cowardly.
"How about you @joeyguerra grow some b---- and some tell me to my face how terrible some of these kids are face to face…? You won't. Ever," he wrote.
Shelton went on to describe Guerra as "a chicken s---."
"I can't stand a person that makes a point to write hurtful things about kids just trying their best," he posted to his three million Twitter followers.
"How much do y'all wanna bet he'd NEVER criticize my team OR me like that face to face… Chicken s---," the singer added.
However, shortly thereafter, Shelton apologized for "going off," and explained that he is simply "passionate" about protecting young talent.
"I'm sorry for going off y'all," he posted to the micro blogging site. "But I am passionate about encouraging young people to follow their dreams. We GOOD people don't need hate."
Meanwhile, "The Voice" airs on NBC on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST.
Shelton just finished his hosting duties at Wednesday night's CMT Music Awards alongside Luke Bryan. There, both Shelton and his wife Miranda Lambert picked up awards for their musical work.
