'Blue Bloods' Season 8 News: Amy Carlson Officially Exits Cop Drama
Amy Carlson has left "Blue Bloods" after seven seasons on the show.
Carlson, who portrayed Linda Reagan, announced her exit through a statement posted on Instagram Saturday. The news comes just one day after the cop drama aired its season 8 premiere.
"I'm so grateful to CBS and the 'Blue Bloods' cast and crew," reads an excerpt from her post. "Mostly, I am grateful to the fans who have supported me and the show. Peace, blessings and many 'love you mores' to all of you."
The actress had been on the show since its debut in 2010. Friday's season 8 premiere revealed that Danny's (Donnie Wahlberg) wife, Linda, had died. Although she survived the fire at their home in the season 7 finale, it was revealed later on that the emergency room (ER) nurse passed away in a helicopter crash while transporting a patient.
Deadline reports that Carlson was able to fulfill her contract, which covered the end of season 7. The actress allegedly just felt it was time to move on and pursue other projects. Still, it was an unexpected move, especially since her character was not given a proper sendoff. Many fans have also expressed disappointment over the character's departure.
This week's episode will see Frank (Tom Selleck) deal with a problem at work. He gets an order from the mayor to attend a parade celebrating a certain individual. He later finds out that it was a man who served jail time for conspiring in an attack against the police force.
Elsewhere, Danny puts his personal issues aside to work on a strange case. He investigates the surprising return of a teen who suspiciously disappeared over a decade ago. Meanwhile, Eddie (Vanessa Ray) and Jamie (Will Estes) are tasked to help a young woman who is being abused by a politician
The eighth season of "Blue Bloods" airs every Friday night at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
