Bobbi Kristina Brown Biopic: Bobby Brown Sues to Stop TV Movie Airing

Bobby Brown is suing the network that plans on airing a biopic of his deceased daughter, Bobbi Kristina. His lawsuit, which was filed in New York last Thursday, Sept. 8, is claiming over a million in damages.

Brown claimed that the television movie frames him as a father who does not care for his daughter,  especially after her mom Whitney Houston's death in 2012. He also alleged that his characterization is "defamatory and untrue" and denied he abused his family. Brown and Houston were married for 14 years and divorced in 2007.

Aside from compensation to the damages, Brown asked the court to stop the airing of "Bobbi Kristina." He named TV One and producers Tracey Baker-Simmons and Wanda Shelley as respondents to his lawsuit.

He alleged that the producers used "Being Bobby Brown," his 2004 reality TV show, as the source material in making the movie. He said he never gave his permission.

"We are aware of the reported legal challenge by Bobby Brown regarding the film Bobbi Kristina and are taking appropriate steps on behalf of our network to respond," the network responded. "While we are not able to address our legal response at this time, we stand by the film and its representation of this period in Bobbi Kristina's life."

Bobbi Kristina died in 2015 following an accident that resulted in a coma. Her father accused her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, as liable for giving her a cocktail of drugs and alcohol which led to her drowning in her bathtub.

Courts ordered Gordon to pay $36 million in damages to the Brown family in a civil lawsuit. Gordon is still facing a criminal lawsuit filed by Brown.

Actor Hassan Johnson portrays Brown in "Bobbi Kristina," which is set to air on TV One on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 9:00 p.m. EST. Joy Rovaris plays the titular role while Demetria McKinney plays Houston and Nadji Jeter is Gordon.
