'Borderlands 3' News and Updates: Possible Release Date Revealed; New Characters Coming to the Upcoming Game?
Since its first release in 2009, the action role playing game "Borderlands" has been a huge success in the gaming community. This is why fans and gamers alike have been long clamoring for "Borderlands 3", to which the game developers have been quiet about.
"Borderlands 3" is Happening
Video game developer Gearbox Software is behind the hit first person shooter franchise "Borderlands". After the initial release of the first installment, there has been at least one sequel and one prequel to the game, with at least three spinoff games.

However, the last official "Borderlands" console game released by the developer was still back in 2014, so fans have been asking whether "Borderlands 3" is still happening or not. Last April though, Gearbox Software answered. The developers had announced that the company will begin working on "Borderlands 3".
However, after the announcement, nothing official about the game's progress had been released by the developers. This led to fans speculating whether "Borderlands 3" would still be coming on 2017 or if it was scrapped altogether by the company.
New and Returning Characters
One of the most exciting facets of "Borderlands 3" is the addition of an all new set of characters. With Handsome Jack being written off in "Borderlands 2", it is interesting to see who would be replacing him as the newest villain of the upcoming game.
Another possible upcoming character would be crossing over from "Tales from the Borderlands" game. Gearbox Software hinted about the character of Scooter going to "Borderlands 3", along with the addition of his son named Scooter. However, the development team is still unsure whether Scooter would make it to the upcoming game, given the character's fate in the previous installment.
The game's protagonists will most likely return for "Borderlands 3" though. Previous characters are expected to once again grace the game, but may receive surprising twists. It is noteworthy that Handsome Jack first started out as a protagonist and ended up as a villain, an arc that "Borderlands 3" may soon revisit.
Game Details and Release Date
The much anticipated "Borderlands 3" was reported to feature an enhanced gameplay and graphic performance than its previous predecessors. This is expected of the sequel as Gearbox Software has a track record of delivering high quality sequels to their hit titles. "Borderlands 3" is also expected to be a true and open game.
Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford already acknowledged the developing and planning stages of "Borderlands 3". However, as the game is still at an early stage of development, he did not divulge any more details. Some reports say though that "Borderlands 3" may be released either on September or October of 2018.
