'Borderlands 3': Gearbox CEO Teases Production of Upcoming Game

It looks like "Borderlands 3" is finally deep into the production, with Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford taking to Twitter to tease the work they are currently doing in the highly-anticipated game.

Pitchford posted a selfie of himself while on duty for a project that is believed to be "Borderlands 3." He accompanied that post with a telling caption, which reads:

"Doing a shoot ... I may or may not be a psycho bandit in a video game we may or may not be working on. Also, happy Bulletstorm launch day!"

From the looks of it, Pitchford is doing some motion-capture work for "Borderlands 3" although this is not the first time he has hinted of the existence of the game.

At the 2017 Game Developers Conference, Pitchford showed off a tech demo of the technology Gearbox has been tinkering with using Unreal Engine 4. He said that this technology will be the one to "power the next Borderlands game."

He did emphasize that the footage used on the game will not necessarily make it to "Borderlands 3," but it does show what the game could potentially look like.

It was back in 2016 when Gearbox confirmed that "Borderlands 3" is coming and that it will be the project they will work on after "Battleborn." Back then, they were only throwing around some ideas.

"It's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands. We don't even know if we're going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know," Pitchford told Eurogamer.

Battleborn art director Scott Kester said he will be back to work on the art direction for "Borderlands 3" while Gearbox chief creative champion Mikey Neumann takes on the writing duties. The latter even teased following the story of Scooter's son Scooper in the game.

"I did this whole Scooter thing, then I pitch-shifted it up like seven semitones so it sounds like a chipmunk and it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard," he explained.
