'Boruto: Naruto Next Generations' News, Release Date: Spin-Off Opens With Boruto Enrolling in Ninja Academy; Director Reveals Naruto and Sasuke Will Still Appear

"Naruto Shippuden" is set to close its final curtain by the end of March so it won't be long before fans of the popular anime series see the last of their favorite character's adventures. However, Naruto Uzumaki won't be gone for too long as a spin-off series titled "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" will arrive after "Naruto Shippuden" wraps up.

"Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" will kick off exactly where "Naruto Shippuden" left off and will follow Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto's son. Fans already had a glimpse of the titular character in the "Boruto" movie, which followed him as he prepared for the Chūnin Exams and confronted Naruto about his poor parenting.

Recently, "Boruto" director Noriyuki Abe spoke with Animedia about the details of the upcoming series and revealed that the spin-off will feature a timeline different from that of the 2015 movie.

"The movie occurs when Boruto, Sarada and Mitsuki are in a three-man cell and undertaking the Chuunin Exams, but the TV series will begin from when they enroll into the Academy. After graduating and forming their three-man cell, gaining experience and challenging the Chuunin Exams is the appropriate timeline," he said.

The director went on to reveal that Sarada and Mitsuki will share a more developed relationship in the upcoming series and that the village of Konoha will be modernized next to an era of peace, with tall buildings and large computer monitors. According to the director, "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" will begin with Boruto enrolling in the Ninja Academy and meeting new challenges.

Meanwhile, Noriyuki revealed that the new series will strike a balance between old and new characters, so fans can expect to still see original characters like Naruto and Sasuke. However, he said the series will shift its focus from them to Boruto and the next generation.

"Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" premieres on Wednesday, April 5 on TV Tokyo.
