Boxing News 2015: Bradley Wants Cotto Instead Of Pacquiao 3 Fight, Canelo-Golovkin Not on for May 2016
WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley now says he prefers to fight former middleweight world champion Miguel Cotto, instead of a third bout with Manny Pacquiao.
Meanwhile, the highly talked about match-up between 160-pound world champions Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is not expected to happen in May of the coming year.
Timothy Bradley last saw action in early November, where he stopped former world champion Brandon Rios in the ninth round of their title fight. The victory marked "Desert Storm's" first title defense since winning the vacant belt in June against Jessie Vargas.
Because of his success against Rios, Bradley had been added to the shortlist of fighters, along with Amir Khan and WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford, who will potentially face Manny Pacquiao in his retirement fight in April.
But apparently, Bradley has other plans. In a report by Boxingscene, the 32-year-old fighter says be prefers to face Miguel Cotto instead. Bradley adds that having already faced Pacquiao twice, the Puerto Rican boxing veteran would be "something new" for him.
"He's been in there with everyone," Bradley said of Cotto, according to the report. "So to get a fight with a fighter like him, with so much class and shown such greatness, inside and outside the ring, it would be great."
Meanwhile, sources within the boxing world claim that the middleweight showdown between champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin will not be happening in May 2016.
In another report by Boxingscene, Alvarez will be fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend as he planned to, but not against Golovkin. "GGG", on the other hand, is expected to make a comeback in March.
No opponents have been named for the two. But according to Golovkin's coach, Abel Sanchez, the important thing is to keep his fighter active.
"He can not go six or eight months without a fight because the public can forget what you did," Sanchez said.
