Boxing News: Manny Pacquiao Wants Another Round with Mayweather Before He Retires
Floyd Mayweather said he has hung his gloves up, but Manny Pacquiao doesn't seem to believe as the Filipino's champion said Saturday that he wants another 12-rounder with the undefeated American boxer.
During his interview with CNN World Sport at a charity event in Abu Dhabi, Pacquiao talked about a possible "Fight of the Century 2" to come in the near future. "It's possible...very much. I would love to have a rematch if he wants it," he said.
The 36-yer-old boxer has eight different division titles to his name, and as news of his nearing retirement surfaced, he also iterated that his last match may be against the "Money."
Legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who is also Pacquiao's current trainer, said just this week that part two of the mega-million match that millions of fans around the world waited for could really happen. However, Mayweather said in multiple occasions that he has no more plans of getting back in the ring with any boxer, including Pacquiao.
When asked what he thought about Mayweather's retirement, the "Pacman" said, "Of course we hear from him many times that he has retired. It's not new for him," he said.
The "Fight of the Century" that ended in a unanimous decision in favor of the younger boxer gave Mayweather a 49-0 record, while it left Pacquiao with a career record of 57 wins, six defeats, and two draws. Pacquiao also acquired a shoulder injury during his bout with the American boxer in Las Vegas and it took him some time to heal.
Meanwhile, fans are looking forward to hear the name of Pacquiao's next opponent. There have been numerous rumors that he will be fighting Amir Khan next, but Khan has slammed the reports earlier, saying the Filipino champ refused to fight him.
Another name that recently came out in association with Pacquiao's next fight is Timothy Bradley. The two have met face to face on June of 2012 with Bradley walking out of the ring boasting a highly controversial split decision that took Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title.
A battle between the two would be a good idea so Pacquiao's fans can "vindicate" themselves if the Filipino wins, but Pacquiao said he will most probably announce his next opponent "late next month."
