Boxing News: Mayweather and Pacquiao 2 to Happen?

World boxing previously asked the question of who boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight on September when he reportedly will put on his gloves for the last time in his career.

The answer was underwhelming as it was revealed that Andre Berto will be given the chance to put a dent in Mayweather's unblemished career and hand him his first loss in 49 professional matches.

Berto's status as an elite fighter is greatly tarnished since he lost three of his last six fights. Currently with a 30-3 record, many believe that he little chance of beating Mayweather. That would bring Floyd's record to 49-0 at retirement – equaling the great Rocky Marciano's record before his untimely demise.

However, those familiar with "Money" Mayweather know that he loves a big payday. Since many fighters return from retirement, some have speculated that Manny Pacquiao could be the only reason he would return.

In their last match, the American boxer managed to get a unanimous decision. Many believed that the match was uninteresting and wanted more action.

Moreover, the subsequent barbs between the two mega fighters made for more exposure on the screen – with Pacquiao claiming he was injured and firmly believing he won, while Mayweather belittled the Filipino's complaining.

The money generated during that match was mind-blowing, with an attendance of 16,219, the live gate produced a whopping $72.2 million. There were 4.4 million Pay-Per-View buys at almost $100 each.

If Mayweather returns to try and get a 50th victory, a win over a supposedly healthy Pacquiao would generate equal, if not more, interest.
