Boyfriend Says He Accidentally Shot, Killed Girlfriend During Hug; Victim's Sister Not '100 Percent' Sure
An 18-year-old Arizona man accidentally shot and killed his 24-year-old girlfriend with a gun he was trying to remove from his waistband to make her more comfortable as they hugged, but the victim's sister says she is not "100 percent certain" that's what happened.
According to a report from AZFamily.com police confirmed the Phoenix, Ariz., shooting of Amanda Mosley, 24, was an accident but the case is still being reviewed. The 18-year-old boyfriend was not identified in the report.
"We understand that she wanted to hug the 18-year-old. He had a gun in his waistband. It caused some discomfort while they were hugging. They started to remove the handgun and that's when it accidentally went off is what we have obtained at this point from this 18-year-old," Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department noted in the report.

When asked if she thought the shooting was an accident, however, the victim's 20-year-old sister, Shawna Mosley, raised doubts about the account given by the boyfriend.
"I'm not going to say that I'm 100 percent certain on that, but that's all the evidence we have so we don't really want to speculate too much or make people think that we're trying to go after someone," she said.
The case is expected to be reviewed by the Maricopa County attorney's office.
Accidental shootings are not uncommon. A Colorado woman died in May after she was accidentally shot in the head with a rifle as she passed the gun to her husband. The woman's husband told police that she was hoping to show the gun to friends at a party and was uncertain if he had touched the gun when it was fired.
In 2010, a hardware store customer also accidentally shot himself in the testicles with a gun he had tucked in his waistband; while last May, a Florida woman forgot she had a gun in her purse and accidentally shot her friend in the leg when she dropped the bag, discharging the gun.
